Intellectual’s Guide to Land the ‘500+ Connections’ on LinkedIn
Avoid so called ‘intellectuals’.
This was a discovery aided by the trader Nassim Taleb.
In a book, he claims that systemic ruin is caused by intellectuals, yet idiots (IYI). The term was coined to call out frauds within the system.
Here’s this author’s take on the intellectual using the same framework:
They dress in unneeded uniforms, costumes to embody their formal education (notice how all business majors dress the same?).
You don’t need to be wearing a suit and tie for the conferences and case studies. It proves you’re ready to submit to get the job, dressing the part instead of being it.
The irony is, you should’t attend such events in the first place. It’s a popularity contest to stroke the ‘intellectual’ person’s ego, or worse, your own. (Goes to show that your profile on LinkedIn does the same thing):
If you’re hiring a person. The one with a polished LinkedIn profile may be a red flag. Assume they’re compensating for not possessing real skills and are hoping the ‘500+ Connections’ lands the interview.
With all this being said, this author has realized that it’s better to be an idiot on the basis that you’re different. Going against the grain but still able to glide by smoothly. Being the hand that ticks instead of the cogs that make it.
Finally,
If you clicked with hopes to boost your LinkedIn profile, I’ve got some news for you.
Let it be known that this author once created a LinkedIn. The account’s been inactive since.
