Looking Homeless With A Home
Social media isn’t a bad thing. Status signalling is.
The investor Charlie Munger once said: “Would you rather be the world’s greatest lover, but have everyone think you’re the world’s worst lover? Or would you rather be the world’s worst lover but have everyone think you’re the world’s greatest lover?”
The same thing can be said for having money or having everyone think you do. This is a very easy argument: Do not upgrade your lifestyle for other people. Think for yourself and keep your money too.
Here’s a heuristic on the topic of money. You can tell whether a person is wealthy or rich by the clothes they wear. No, wealthy and rich are not the same thing.
The rich lifestyle is putting your bank account on display to impress family and friends through purchases.
The wealthy lifestyle is preserving your bank account without a care for opinions.
The person wearing a Rolex is doing well but someone with a Casio could be doing better. This doesn’t mean looking homeless creates wealth. It simply means:
Get wealthy so you can afford to look homeless.
Save your money. Invest. Look homeless knowing you have a home.
