Sudoku On The Subway
This author lives in Toronto. Like any large city, we have a transit service called the TTC.
Before crowded subways were considered death traps, I took the TTC for five days a week to reach downtown.
Everyday. Without fail. I would grab a copy of a ‘Star Metro’ paper before entering the now death trap. The paper would be filled with uneeded news about the Toronto community.
I was more concerned about the horoscope and sudoku sections.
Every morning it was a challege for myself to:
Complete the sudoku before exiting the subway.
I used a black pen inside my jacket pocket and it’s sole purpose was for sudoku.
Mrs. Rahman, my grade 3 teacher would always say, “think before you ink”. My version of that was to:
Only fill a cell with a number you’re 100% sure of .
Like making your bed every morning, finishing a sudoku on the subway gave me a small sense of pride.
Not getting it done meant no coffee for that morning.
It was an induction to get the rest of the day started. A mini win.
This author suggests finding your sudoku on the subway to reinforce that the little things in life matter.
